The Virginia Israel Advisory Board offers a variety of programs to foster international business success in Virginia.

Contract Manufacturing
Israeli companies can reduce their time to money and manufacturing and assembly cost by outsourcing contract manufacturing, procurement and supply chain management to Virginia companies.
The Virginia Manufacturers Association (VMA) works with Israeli companies to find Virginia suppliers and production resources. The program is valuable for Israel companies selling to federal agencies and need to meet buy America criteria.

Maritime Program
Bringing Israeli Shipping, Port and Logistic related companies to the Hampton Roads Region.
The Virginia Israel Advisory Board brings Israeli Port and shipping related technologies and companies to the Hampton Roads Region of Virginia which is the second largest East Coast port and the U.S. Headquarters of Zim Israel Shipping Lines.
We leverage the presence of Norfolk having the largest navy base in the world and NewPort News Ship Builders who make aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy to partner Israel companies with all the local players in that ecosystem – especially with the 100s of area veteran-owned business who are expert in the selling maritime and defense related products in federal contracts.


Defense, Security and Cyber
Virginia is Washington D.C. – the center for Federal contracting and procurement for all military branches.
7 of the top 10 federal contracting companies are headquartered in Virginia, as well as, the Pentagon, Marines and CIA.
In a segment with proven Israeli prowess, the Defense, Security and Cyber program pairs Israeli companies seeking to enter the U.S. market with players in the Virginia federal contracting ecosystem
The Virginia Israel Advisory Board works with the Israel Ministry of Defense; the Israel Manufactures’ Association and Kibbutz Industries to develop partnerships with leading federal contractors. We bring Israeli defense delegations to Virginia to conduct one-on-one business networking meetings.

Virginia companies can access Israeli innovative technologies to gain competitive advantages, shorten R&D cycles and lower costs.
The Virginia Israel Advisory Board’s Open Innovation program provides Virginia companies access to innovative Israeli technologies and R&D funding for Israel-Virginia JVs.
Israel has the highest number of people (per capita) working in R&D in the world and the highest venture capital investment levels per capita in the world. These factors created a pool of hundreds of early-stage, innovative Israeli companies seeking to enter the U.S. market, and they are ripe to partner with mature Virginia businesses.

R&D Joint Ventures – Grants up to $1m for Virginia Israel Partnerships
The VIAB provides Virginia companies with access to funding and partnerships with Israeli companies with cutting-tech innovative technologies.
The BIRD Foundation (Binational Industrial Research and Development) provides up to a $1 million grant per project for joint R&D projects between an Israeli company and a Virginia based company.
BARD Is a competitive funding program for mutually beneficial, mission-oriented, strategic and applied research of agricultural problems, jointly conducted by American and Israeli scientists. See their 40 Year External Review: Research Impact Assessment here.
University Programs
VIAB works with a range of University stake holders with aligned economic development missions and is enhancing ties between Israel and Virginia applied research.
These involve:
- Economic Development units within public universities to facilitate partnerships in their region
- Applied Research & Commercialization for the U.S. market (including Israeli funding components
- Student exchanges to study in Israel
- Virginia Student internships with Israeli companies including scores of Virginia students providing research and consulting services to Israel companies through the TAMID Group (e.g. on the UVA campus).
- Out-reach to enterprises in order to source innovation and technology from Israel
